Service Options
Speedy Lube's service options are standardized and tailored to best fit your vehicles’ needs while following manufacturers specifications. Today some vehicle's have quick and easy access to change the oil and filter, while other vehicles have multiple lower covers with multiple and difficult access grease joints. Customers with quick and easy vehicle designs should not be charged the same as those vehicles that require more time and procedures. Speedy Lube has three levels of labor charge ranging from quick and easy to time consuming. The vehicle design dictates which labor charge fits the selected service desired. The decision on which standard service you desire is the customers.
Synthetic Oil Advantages
The synthetic oil film is tougher and includes better additive packages in the oil compared to blends or conventional oils. Higher quality engine oils have better additive packages will therefore, cost more. Synthetic oils resist viscosity (thickness) breakdown better and lasts longer. Withstands higher temperatures by resisting thermal break down better. Synthetic oils flow better in cold weather due to lower viscosities. However, lower viscosity oils may leak more if the engine is not sealed well. Synthetic blend oils are synthetic and conventional oil blended together. This option is less viscous for higher mileage engines to limit leaks. Additionally, many drivers option for a high mileage oil additive, which contains seal swell that can reduce leaks as well as additives that allow combustion contaminants to stay suspended in the oil until the oil is changed. Why not have everything checked on the vehicle at every oil change?
Disadvantages: Vehicle manufacturers do not design most vehicle fasteners or plugs to be removed and reinstalled as frequently as the oil and filter should be changed. Air filter housings, differential, transfer-case, and power train unit fasteners or plugs may prematurely wear out more quickly. This wear may damage unit casings and internal components when fasteners and plugs are worn out. Review your vehicle's maintenance manual tasks and this fact often bears true.
Advantages: Older vehicle gear box units may leak and need more frequent checking to maintain adequate fluid levels. Additionally, some people have only had oil and filter changes and should consider deeper services. Others may drive on dirt roads or in construction areas and need air filters inspected more often.
Driveline Fluid and Lube Exchanges or Flushes
Automatic Transmission Service: As with engine oils, the additives wear out, not the fluid or oil. Better quality oils have better additive packages and usually cost more. There are various types of transmission services and they vary greatly. Some auto manufacturers recommend transmission filter changes with new Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) in the transmission pan, which is only about 20% of the entire transmission's capacity. Other professionals recommend full ATF exchanges and the filters are not serviceable. Some manufacturers do not make any recommendations beyond ATF fluid level inspections. Then again, some transmission ATF checks are very difficult to perform due to location or strict temperature requirements.
The bottom line is that vehicle owner's investment is both their risk and decision beyond warranty. Speedy Lube follows manufacturer's specifications and recommended maintenance schedules. However, I have never met an automotive transmission engineer who would ignore ATF service if they were personally retaining the vehicle. Generally the ATF color is red or pink when it is new and will eventually turn brown / black and become thick with contaminants. There are best practice fluid color charts on the Internet with the color orange being the optimal recommended time to exchange the fluid. Some transmissions allow quite a bit of internal clutch slippage (for smooth shifting) and will change the fluid color quite quickly. Transmissions with high mileage and wear will also turn the fluid color brown or black quite quick. At Speedy Lube we show you your sample if we recommend that you consider an ATF exchange.
A final word considering extending the life of a transmission based on a 30 year observation.I know of many ASE technicians who noticed decades ago that many vehicles parked in dealerships and transmission shops with transmission issues had trailer hitches. Transmissions are engineered for the expected vehicle load and come with or do not come with trailer hitches. Adding a trailer hitch and hauling loads heavier than the vehicle was engineered for will likely become problematic prematurely. Vehicles with stock trailer hitches and that haul heavy loads will last longer if good maintenance is performed.
Transfer and Differential Case Fluid Flushes: Again, most manufactures do not have a schedule to change these lubricant fluids. However, the lubricant fluids become contaminated with debris and water over time. Again, we make recommendations on flushes based on clarity and opacity of the fluid and show the customer the sample if they are present. It is important to realize that there are special additives in the correct lubricants for a fluid to meet the coded specification.
I often hear customers mention that NAPA recommended their ATF for replacement in a transfer case. That is because the NAPA fluid they are recommending meets the vehicle transfercase (not the same as transmission) specification. However, not all ATF will necessarily meet all of the various vehicle transfercase fluid specifications and many do not meet any specifications at all. At Speedy Lube we have a variety of fluids to meet either the ATF or the transfercase specification. Please feel free to ask one of our ASE certified consultants to show you the specifications match for your vehicle and unit.
People seam to assume common Facebook and Google business ratings are somehow accurate. However, unlike restaurant food, where smiling service, taste, and presentation are personal experiences, technical service maintenance is different. Although a person may experience a short wait, smiling kind service personnel, hot coffee and donuts to evaluate, they do not have expertise to tell if the procedure was done correctly and without other damage. How then can a person evaluate the technical service they really had with a single 5 star rating. Therefore, we do not ask customers to add to the delusion and confusion of a single 5 star rating. However, we have found that people post complaints about other businesses on our site as well as make bogus claims from competitor associations. Google does not have a policy that allows a business to remove those inaccurate / invalid complaints or ratings.
Additionally, we have many companies offer their services to remove any and all ratings and comments that we are not empowered to remove. We also have invitations to pay for additional higher reviews ratings. Doesn't that make you wonder what the ratings mean if money can change those review ratings. Doesn't that system sound like a misleading racket?
